Hosting an Instagram Live is a great way to connect directly with your audience. The function allows you to stream a live video to your community directly through Instagram Stories. We find it to be a great way for building engagement, connecting directly with your community, sharing news, and establishing your brand - it can be particularly helpful to promote your raise.
Whether it’s a Live launch party or hosting guests for coffee chats throughout the raise, statistics show that people are much more inclined to tune in and watch a live stream than other more traditional events.
- 80% say they would rather watch a livestream than read a blog post
- 82% say they would rather watch a livestream than see a social media post
- 67% of audiences who watched a livestream bought a ticket to a similar event the next time it happened
Social media live streaming is a dynamic, authentic, and engaging tool to promote your raise in an interactive, online environment. One of the biggest pros is that you don’t need any special equipment to run a livestream. We’ve created this guide to get you started in the world of self-broadcasting.
Running Regular Events 🗓️
Throughout your raise, we recommend having regular “coffee chats.” Whether this is you answering questions on your Live, adding special guests to discuss certain topics, or hosting a Live launch party to pitch your campaign, regularly hosting Instagram or Facebook Lives can be a great way to create a consistent stream of events and content for potential investors to stay engaged.
Be sure you’re promoting these events in advance. Frequent promotions and enough notice can make a difference for events and pave the way for better results. Some ways to do this is to:
- Create a countdown sticker for your followers to keep track of
- Put up a Q&A form in advance to collect questions and create awareness
- Create an event on your FrontFundr campaign page and send it as an update
Setting it Up: Instagram Live 🤳🏻
Step 1: The Instagram Live feature is only available on mobile devices so the first step would be to open the app and tap the plus icon on the top right of the screen.
Step 2: Once you’re at the screen to select the type of content, swipe over to Live and you’ll be at the Instagram Live screen. Tip: Make sure you switch your camera in the bottom right corner to reflect the view you want.
Step 3: Tap on the recording icon. Instagram will check your phone’s internet connection before starting the broadcast and will then go live, notifying your followers to come to watch.
Setting it up: Facebook Live 🤳🏻
Going Live on Facebook can require a bit more planning. First, you’ll need to decide if you’re going Live on your business page or personal profile. Tip: Keep in mind that if you’re bringing guests on to your Live, we recommend using your business page. Otherwise, you’ll need to make sure you and your guests are Facebook friends before they will be allowed to join your personal Live.
Second, you’ll need to create a Facebook event beforehand to promote your event across different platforms.
Creating a Livestream Event
To create an event from your phone, you’ll start from the Event tab.
From desktop, you’ll create an Event starting from the new post: “What’s on your mind?”
Third, you’ll need to determine if you’re going live on mobile or computer.
Going Live from Mobile
Step 1: On the Facebook mobile app, go to the event that you want to stream your video from. Be sure to join early to make sure your stream is properly set up before going live.
Step 2: Click Go Live Now to go Live. As soon as you start streaming, your followers will be notified.
Going Live from Desktop
Step 1: On the Facebook desktop app, go to the event that you want to stream your video from. Your Live video will begin automatically at the scheduled start time. You must go Live within 10 minutes of the scheduled time or your video will be canceled.
Step 2: Click Go Live Now to go Live. As soon as you start streaming, your followers will be notified.
Make the Most of your Live ⬇️
Always be sure to save your Instagram or Facebook livestream for additional promotion - that way, your followers who might have not had the chance to tune in, can still check out your Live. Snipping these videos into smaller clips can also be a great promotional tool for you or your team to share across your personal accounts.
Before you host your livestream, be sure to meet with our team at FrontFundr to discuss ideas and content and ensure the planned event takes our campaign and compliance policies into effect.
